Udupi, May 23: Nagarjuna Power Ltd Corporation which has been engaged in setting up of a thermal power plant in Nandikoor near Padubidri and is facing stiff resistance from the locals and the environmentalists alike for the project, is forced to suspend its works for the present.
Honorary president of Nandikoor Janajagruthi Samithi Balakrishna Shetty has stated through a press release that the company has been facing shortage of goods and equipments to continue with its works, owing to the recent earthquake that hit parts of China. He said that import of the items needed by the company has been facing hurdles because of the quake, forcing the company to put on hold the ongoing works.
Nagarjuna Company, which used to get supplies from India-based BHEC Company in the past, opted to cancel its dealings with that company and chose to get necessary consignments from DEC Company in China. This plan has run into rough weather because of the recent tragedy from which China is trying recover from.
Shetty added that Nagarjuna Company in turn, has entered into an understanding with the said Chinese company, for the export of goods worth Rs 32 crore.
