Kundapur: Passenger who fell from moving train near Shirur succumbs to injuries

Kundapur, Aug 30: A person from Kumta who was travelling by a train, and fell from the train accidentally near the railway crossing at Shirur railway station, lost his life. He has been identified as Mahadev Varnekar (42), native of Kumta.

Umesh Mahadev Varnekar had arrived from Belagavi. After the train crossed Gokarna, the family members had slept, it is said. During morning hours, when the train was moving slowly at the railway crossing near Shirur railway station, the family decided to alight from the train. Varnekar, when trying to get down, slipped and fell on the railway tracks. As the wheels of the train moved over both his legs, his legs got severed. He was later admitted into Wenlock Hospital Mangaluru for treatment.

Varnekar did not respond to treatments and breathed his last at the hospital. A case of unnatural death in this respect was lodged in Byndoor police station.
