Mangaluru: Alzheimer’s awareness marathon Purple Run to set off on Sep 24

Mangaluru Aug 30: Forum Fiza Mall in association with PAGE is all set to conduct ‘The Purple Run 2017' on September 24 to create awareness on Alzheimer’s disease.

Addressing media here on Wednesday August 30, assistant centre manager Forum Fiza Mall Fayaz M H said, "Mangaluru will be hosting India’s biggest awareness run for Alzheimer’s. Alzheimer's is the fifth leading cause of the death in people over 55 years of age. 'The Purple Run' is a unique initiative by Forum to raise awareness on Alzheimer’s. More than 10,000 people will be running simultaneously across five forum malls in four different cities namely Mangaluru, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai for this cause.

"Every participant of The Purple Run can choose the running distance of his comfort zone from 3 km (family run), 5 km, 10 km and the half marathon distance of 21 km. The marathon begins at Forum Fizza Mall and culminates at the same venue. The prize money is Rs 6 lac in the half marathon and 10 km for male and female category winners. The 3 km and 5 km run are classified as fun run and winners will receive gift hampers.

"Entry forms will be available at The Purple Run registration desk on the upper ground floor of Forum Fizza Mall. Entry fee will be Rs 400. We have tied up with NIMHANS Bengaluru where the money collected will be used in funding a research team.
