Delhi to get 2,000 new buses

New Delhi, Sep 1 (IANS): The Delhi government on Friday decided to purchase 2,000 standard floor, non-AC buses, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said. No buses have been added to the capital's public transport system in the past four years.

Of the 2,000 buses, 1,000 will be with the state-run Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) and 1,000 will be cluster buses, said Gahlot.

"Purchase of new buses sends a message that the perception that DTC is a dying organisation is wrong," he added.

The cluster buses will arrive in 10 months and DTC buses in 12 months. The Minister said the government was also planning to introduce mini buses.
