Mangaluru, Sep 4: City mayor, Kavita Sanil, announced that it has been decided to name the Town Hall here after Kudmul Ranga Rao. She was speaking after inaugurating Kudmul Ranga Rao birth anniversary celebrations and syposium conected thereto, at a programme held here on Sunday by Manava Bandhutwa Vedike.

"Even though Ranga Rao was born in a higher caste family, he worked for the development of weaker sections of the society. We are proud to rename Town Hall in his honour, towards making his memories permanent. I am confident of completing this task before my term ends," she added.

Dr M R Keshava Dharani, chairman of Kudmul Ranga Rao Foundation, hailed Ranga Rao for making untouchable people literate and making them imbibe self respect. He said that Mahatma Gandhi, during his visit, here was surprised at the social services rendered by Kudmul Ranga Rao and hailed him as his Guru.

State convener, Wilfred D'Souza, presided. City corporator, Purushotham Chitrapur, retired professor, Prof B M Ichalamgody, professor of Mangaluru University, Dr Sabita, Prof M S Kotian of KMC Hospital, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti leader, M Devadas, Renny D'Souza of 'Padi' organization and others were present.
