Mangalore, May 27: Panambur police achieved a major breakthrough in detecting stealing of diesel from tankers after they seized three tankers at Panambur near here on Monday May 26 afternoon. However, three persons involved in siphoning out diesel from the tankers managed to flee the place.
Policemen led by Panambur sub-division ASP Koushalendra Kumar have seized two tankers and other items used in siphoning the diesel from oil tankers from nearby New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) truckyard, on Monday afternoon.
Policemen raided the truck yard after receiving a sure tip-off. At the time of raid, three persons were busy pilfering diesel from the stationery tankers which had come from Panambur-based Indian Oil Corporation unit. This was carried out in the presence of the tanker drivers. As soon as they saw the police, the tanker drivers and an employee of the truckyard fled the place.
Police seized two tankers, a 10-litre plastic can and a pipe used in siphoning out diesel from the tankers.
Panambur police have registered a case in this regard.
