Bengaluru: Special Investigation Team to probe killing of Gauri Lankesh - CM

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Sep 6: Chief minister (CM) Siddaramaiah on Wednesday ordered the formation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IG level officer to crack the murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh.

He said that the team exclusively investigate the murder of Lankesh and will be given a free hand to take as many police personnel as required. He was confident that the killers will be nabbed soon.

He also said that if Lankesh's family insist then the government was also open to CBI probe.

"I have instructed the police to provide protection to progressive thinkers in the state" Siddaramaiah added.

Gauri Lankesh was shot dead outside her home here on Tuesday.

We had UR Ananthamurthy, Kalburgi, father P Lankesh, Poornachandra Tejaswi... all these people. They were all trenchant critics of Jawaharlal Nehru, of Indira Gandhi, of Rajiv Gandhi. But none of them were ever physically attacked, let alone (receiving) death threats.
The manner in which Lankesh was killed was eerily similar to the way in which rationalist MM Kalburgi was killed two years ago.
It has been two years since the writer and rationalist was shot dead. Tasked with the investigation, the Karnataka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has not managed to crack the case so far.
Kalburgi, a scholar and the former vice chancellor of Hampi University, was a renowned rationalist. He was one of the prominent voices in Karnataka demanding a strong anti-superstition bill.
Following his murder, a group of writers together with family members of Narendra Dabholkar and Govind Pansare, rationalists who were also killed in a similar fashion, approached the Karnataka government to pass the Bill.
The Bill was placed before the Karnataka Assembly in 2016, however, it was not passed. There were many who voiced their opposition to the Bill, even within the ruling Congress party.
Two years after his cold blooded murder, the Karnataka government has neither been able to bring to justice those who killed Kalburgi, nor has it been able to honour the writer’s campaign – one that eventually cost him his life.
Tt was the threat for Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy Jnanpith Award for the Kannada language and Padma Bhushan awardee, then Kalburgi was eliminated, now Gauri Lankesh slept forever.
Neither the legacy of Kalburgi is honoured nor his murderer nabbed. I would say this one the biggest drawback CM Siddaramaiah need to accept.
    Jai Hind

First of all let me tell you, I am not belonging to any political parties. But being an Indian by birth first and then next Kannadiga of very beautiful state Karnataka, I feel very heart wrenching experience when I see, read what is happening on daily basis in our state and especially in twin undivided districts Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in coastal region.Killing, murder, ethnic rivalry, disharmony among the people of other community, rally, protests etc have become regular features in this region but it is all politically motivated and self centered.
I am wondering how many killings, murders of noted personalities, sexual abuse, rapes, child abuse rallies, protests are being happening on regular basis either on religion related or on political issues. Really I feel shame being called as Kannadiga because our political leaders are ruining the name and reputation of our beautiful state, districts for their personal political gain and to avenge the political rivalry. But in fact common people are the one who suffers the most at the hands of these political I must say rogues.
In spite of all these happenings our so called political leaders enjoying their respective chairs very cooly, watching the fun, closing their eyes as if nothing is being happening in their constituencies. But they are not ready to step down on moral ground in spite of so many happenings, allegations against them. Leaders or authorities on higher ranks knowingly or unknowingly are always trying to safeguard or protect his/her fellow or colleagues in spite of their wrong doings, criminal cases and allegations of various miss-deeds.Such are our shameless political leaders. They are only expert in telling lies to lure the votes, create some havocs, trying their level best to create communal disturbances with sole purpose of disturbing the harmony among the people of other community. This is called Indian Politics (Poli-tricks).Ordering for investigation, probes are all eye wash. nothing will come out. At the end of the day, no result, case is closed.
In democratic country like India, holding peace, bike or any rallies not crime if it is organized peacefully without causing any damages to lives of human beings, public property. It is not unconstitutional, if it is within the Para meter of law of the soil/land. Allow the rally and maintain the law and order strictly.
One should have the right to hold such rallies and express their voice, views on wrong doings of the government machineries. Banning or denying permission to hold such rallies by the concerned authorities, respective governments and law and order maintaining departments is the biggest blunder and crime. That shows their individuality. By Suppressing or gagging the mouth of the people means concerned governments, authorities are exhibiting their weakness just for the sake of vote bank and protecting their respective chairs.

    @ Tuluva, Tulunadu
Dear BJP supporter it is clear from your long comments that your concern is first for BJP and next for Karnataka. What about BJP leaders closing eyes to mob lynching in other parts of the country ? What about riots in Haryana due to state government's negligience and then BJP CM holding on to his seat not owing responsibility ? What about children deaths in Gorakhpur, UP hospital ? Why is BJP CM Yogi holding tight to his seat ? Why think only of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi districts and Karnataka state ? Why not also think of problems happening to our beautiful country India as well ? Is India not our country ? What about atrocities happening to Dalits so often ? If Karnataka government is taking preventive law and order measures to prevent disturbances then citizens must obey. If government believes that there is a threat that such a political bike rally can lead to disturbances then they must take preventive action. Only people who have political leanings towards BJP will oppose because for them BJP is more important and if any disturbances happen during bike rally they can get to blame the Congress government for not being able to handle the situation. Karnataka Assembly elections are coming soon so the Karnataka government is clever enough to understand what is the real purpose of bike rally organized by the BJP.

All problems & unrest in Karnataka and DK are governed by Congi's. They are the main perpetrators to create religious unrest in Karnataka by dividing religion for vote bank.
CBI should be given free hand to come out with the real culprits and motive behind all the murders in DK as well.
