Police earn praise for patience, discipline in handling high voltage 'Mangaluru Chalo'

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Sep 8: Mangaluru was tense on September 6 and 7, due to the 'Mangaluru Chalo' called by BJP Yuva Morcha demanding ban on some organisations including PFI. A large number of citizens prefered to stay home in anticipation of untoward incidents in the city. As there was no full-fledged permision from the police, the task of handling the rally was challenging to the cops. But when BJP's rally came to an end without any major trouble despite an estimated 5,000 people having gathered around Jyothi circle, mostly from outside Mangaluru, the police force received huge appreciation from citizens and others.

"Though there were several tense moments during the event, police were calm and handled the situation without retaliating. In case the police had lost patience, the situation would have been different. On a couple of occasions, there was resistance from protestors who crossed barricades, but the police handled them smoothly, even though some police officers were even injured and their uniform torn," said a journalist who arrived from Mysuru to cover the 'Mangaluru Chalo' news.

"One must appreciate the circle inspector of Kadri Maruthi Nayak, who did not get provoked by the harsh and abusive language used by MP Nalin Kumar. There were instances of provocative kind of speeches from some of the speakers in the rally also," said another journalist who arrived from outside the district.

"We always criticise the police when something goes wrong, but sometimes we must appreciate when they do a good job. Hopefully, Mangaluru will be peaceful for ever," said a senior citizen when asked about the event.

Police deployed for the protest consisted of one team of Rapid Action Force, 15 KSRP platoons, 15 CAR platoons, eight SP level officers, 12 DySPs, 30 circle inspectors, 60 sub-inspectors, 600 constables and home guards.

Police managed to foil the bike rally planned by the BJP Yuva Morcha, as only a handful bikers managed to escape from police. Notably, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA CT Ravi both managed to ride through.

Former commissioner of Mangaluru city, Chandra Sekhar was reportedly overseeing the arrangements and guiding the force from behind the scene. Under the leadership of Mangaluru police commissioner T Suresh Kumar, the entire force was ready to face any untoward incidents in the rally. When the entire nation's eyes were on Mangaluru, the Mangaluru police delivered.

While BJP claimed the rally as huge success, Congress and other opposition parties claimed 'Mangaluru Chalo' as 'Flop show'

This shows Chandrashekar was one of the best Police commissioner DK had got and if he was there, there wouldn't have all these unwanted incidents. Sadly he was transferred because of some lathi charge issue and this shows how political interference can spoil the peace in society.

I would like to add Mangalore can be saved by Mangaloreans own will.
They have opted for BJP since 1992 for last 25 years to wait for this day. If they haven't supported the fanatic party over the development Mangalore would have not seen the days like pub attack, morning mist, sharath funeral procession and bike rally.

It is the time Mangaloreans need to do some serious retrospective of their own votes they casted in the past for development.

I would like request all the citizens of Mangalore to think wisely to choose right candidate for the future of your childrens.

For BJP Mangalore is only another extension of Nagpur where they can use it as spring board to fill the political ambitions of South India.
Let them prove what development BJP has done for Mangaloreans in last 25 years of ruling other than private initiatives?

If Police had arrested and booked Nalin Kumari when he threatened to burn DK, he would not have gone as far as to threaten them now. Don't let this goonda to take law into his own hands. It is a lessen to voters who vote on communal lines to thuggs like this.

Hats off to the Police of Mangalore and to the Commissioner for exampilary leadership that motivated the police force of Mangalore to enforce the rule of law. Considering that most of the 5000 protestors were from outside is indicative that Mangloreans were generally indifferent to such disruptive protests. It is good the bike rally was not allowed and only Nehru Maidan rally was given permission. Let this be the standard practice so that the people of mangalore are not inconvenienced in any such political events.

The abusive and arrogant behavior of M P Nalin Kumar against Kadri Inspector Maruti Naik is condemnable. Unions and associations of all government employees should take this matter seriously and protest this. Government servants are not the private servants of any citizen. Unless one gets properly qualified, pass compitative exams and interview s cannot get to the rank of a police inspector or any other position. Hats off Maruti Naik....U shown your best patience limits. Don't get discouraged because of Nalin Kumar behavior. There are millions of Indians , who appreciate you.

A leading Kannada daily published from coastal Karnataka has claimed that the rally was a huge success. This paper is known for its tilt towards the BJP, so it does not surprise me that they have published such misleading news. I don't know who authorised this newspaper to give this certificate to the BJP. Be that as it may, the police force deserve kudos and our gratitude for a job very well done. They have done a wonderful job to thwart the evil designs of the organisers of this rally. And the police deserve a pat on their backs for this.

Congratulations to Mr. T. R. Suresh, Commissioner and Mr. M. Chandrashekar, former Police Commissioner, for effectively and efficiently handling Mangaluru Chalo. Nalin Kumar's aggression with Mr. Maruti Naik - though a black spot on the image of the district - can be discounted as the frustration of a loser. However, it is our responsibility to see that we don't elect goons and uncivilised people as our representatives in future elections.

Congratulations to police force. Also congratulations to Daiji for appreciating hard work of police normally goes unnoticed otherwise!
Protesters tried their best to create tension and they failed miserably. Blame goes to Nalin and CT Ravi for breaking orders and riding bikes against police instructions that shows they consider them above law.
Pity, our own politicians and reps brought outside people to create congestion and chaos in Mangalore while most locals remained indoors! I'm not sure this a way to gain power in politics, brainwashing people using religion card......! Look at Advani who started religion divide and he came close to big power and yet so far! This is a fine example where objective will never be met by using God and religion on a long run!

Tremendous success of BJP's Yuva morcha rally was mainly due to govts restrictions on bike rally and working over the arrangements since many days even by Siddu. This shows the extent of fear on the govt for its soft in good elements close to present MLAs.In Karnataka every thing is permissable if it is favouring minorities....however they always accuse to be soft on saffron.
