Kasargod:Accused in ATM theft attempt case held

Kasargod, Sep 8: Shihab (22) from Manjeshwar stands arrested by Payyannur police. He has been accused of trying to break into an ATM located at Payyannur for stealing cash stashed inside.

An attempt to force open the ATM of Corporation Bank located near the new bus stand at Payyannur had been made on July 27 this year. The ATM contained Rs 16 lac when an attempt to break it open was made. The accused had succeeded in breaking open the chest section of the ATM but he could not open the main part which contains money. As his effort failed, the accused had taken a bus back to Manjeshwar, police personnel stated.

The accused had used the cellphone of his friend to make a call when travelling to Payyannur. During the police investigation helped by cyber cell, this phone number could be traced. The police then followed this lead and succeeded in finding Shihab out. During the questioning, Shihab reportedly confessed to his crime.
