Kundapur, Sep 8: A school boy fell and has been hospitalised after he and his classmates were allegedly given corporal punishment for complaining about a teacher.

The incident took place at Vishw Vinayaka National English Medium School near Tekkatte.

It is said that students of class 4 had complained to principal Augustine that their teacher was not good and urged for a replacement. They had also staged a protest on September 6, it is learnt.

On Thursday September 7, the principal came to the class along with the teacher and asked the students about their complaint. The students told him that they were unhappy with the teacher, as they could not understand her teaching. They urged him to find a new teacher for them.

The principal, however, grew angry at this, it is alleged, and thrashed the students. He also told them to fall at the feet of the teacher and beg forgiveness. The frightened students did as they were told.

One of the students, 9-year-old Wasim (name changed), developed fever and chills after he came home from school. He also looked agitated, and when his worried parents asked if something was troubling him, he narrated the incident at the school.

Wasim was then admitted to Kundapur government hospital, where the doctors who examined him diagnosed that he had developed blood clots as a result of assault and would need a minor surgery.

Soon after the incident was reported, Kundapur sub-divisional officer Shilpa Nag and MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty visited the hospital and met the family.

Kota police have registered a case.

Speaking to reporters, a relative of the boy condemned the principal's action.

Kundapur BEO Ashok Kamath said, "We have asked the principal to furnish a report. He has already given details about the incident. The report will be submitted in the district CWC court for further action."

Dear People, It is very sad to see the people complaining and comparing the levels in US. Educated people this is not called disciplining children. it is supporting children to be more arrogant. it is sad that in today's world parents supporting their children with the support of the fringe people around. the people who support are the people who are jobless. they want to put down the school administration, the teachers and other staff. it is sad that by doing this the children’s mind goes more arrogant and disturbed they as well get upper hand. Do you know that by this the children tend to say now the principle and the teachers can’t do anything to us we have taught them a good lesson? so sad, it is not the teachers who will be losing, they will just come and just teach, they won’t be bothered if the children understood or not. they won’t be bothered about disciplining children. as their duty is only teaching. what is the present world thinking. Teachers are the once who discipline the children. tomorrow you will find these same people say how these teachers have brought up these children. these same children will trend to develop as rouge children. Parents please don't get agitated cause you got support from the fanatic people who support as they might feel that they get support and they can show that because of them the things came to their side.
It is better to have children who are discipline rather than rouge children. it all depends on the parents how they want the future of the children.
in Kannada, there is a saying 'when a tree is small it can be moulded and shaped any way, but once it is grown we can never give a shape as we want it to be. It is very sad to see the comments.
Parents do you send the children to discipline the principle & the teachers. it is not this age the children getting involved with these types of activities. At this age, it is the time for children to be disciplined, and not to show their muscle power and spoil other children

    Dear Langoolacharya,
crime is a crime whether it is major or minor. The difference between our times and now is that the parents are educated. Even i was subjected to severe punishment during our time not only by the teachers but also by the priests. I was happy to appear against one of my teachers who beat me in the court in a criminal case .
There was a time when priests and teachers were respected and even parents were not telling anything to them if they had committed atrocities on their children.
Time has changed as you said. Beating the children cannot be tolerated. Harsh punishment should be awarded to the principal for thrashing the students.
I feel there should be a legal cell in every school and college.

Times have changed and the world has got competitive. We need to raise children who grow up to become confident and smart individuals. Adolescence is going to pump up hormones for the age group to do things that mature individual's don't and this is natural. Educators should be trained better and should understand the child's psychology. This is not much to ask of teachers and their training should incorporate it.
We have had teachers and principal's who have messed up individuals by beating them and ruined their confidence by comparing with others who are their pet boy's.. I am sure a lot of you have seen it. I totally detest it and hate the adage 'spare the stick and spoil the child' -- this is out of context at this time and age.

The principal should be arrested. Gone are the days when a student was inside Principal's office, we assumed the student was in danger. But, today, when a student is in Principal's office, the Principal is in danger. The teachers are given proper training, how to conduct the affairs with young students, and this is not what is taught to them. Their problems at home they have to leave there. Look at the bruise and do you think this Principal is a responsible one ?

Sorry something is wrong here.doctor told bloodclot, and fever out of it and need surgery.I dont understand here anything. For me wund looks bit old,not fresh and why he should be admitted because of fever?Or to teach a lesson to teacher.what type of head master he is ?beating children?I think those olden days are over .Headmaster should be out from this school..He was supposed to attend to children s complaint and need to make changes. He should be punished.May be the boy had the wound already and got infected and now having fever, that is quit possible.case should be further investigated properly.

    People,

Teachers beating students( Corporal punishment) should not be treated as crime in my opinion....also 4th graders are not decide who will teach them....
