Mangaluru, Sep 9: St Agnes College’s department of Journalism and Mass Communication in association with Bliss Professional Unisex Salon will organise 'Locks of Love', a hair donation drive on September 10 at Forum Fiza Mall, informed St Agnes College, department of Journalism and Mass Communication HOD Lakshmi Shenoy.

Addressing media here on Friday, September 8, Laxmi Shenoy said, “This is the first time we are organising a hair donation drive in Mangaluru. Our motive is to create awareness on the importance of hair donation among Mangalureans.”

Sandhya D’Souza, lecturer, St Agnes College said, “The hair which we cut is usually thrown away. The same will be collected during the drive and donated to 'Sarga Kshetra', an NGO from Kerala, which makes wigs for women and children who lose their hair due to chemotherapy and other medical issues. This noble initiative will definitely bring back smiles of women and children who have lost their hair because of cancer. Interested donors should make sure that their hair should be above 6 inches, hair should not be oily, grey hair and dreadlocks will not be accepted and hair should be clean and shampooed.”

Proprietor of Bliss Professional Unisex Salon Nazeefa Aysha said, “It is a privilege to be associated with ‘Locks of Love’, a noble cause to donate hair to help cancer patients. In fact, it is a dream come true for us, as for the first time ever, Bliss is taking part in such noble initiative. I urge people to come in large numbers to donate their hair and join hands to put smiles on the faces of women and children.”

Brand ambassador of ‘Locks of Love’ Carol Pinto and student coordinator Nishamitha Rai were present.
