Mangaluru, Sep 17: The second general session of the academic council of Mangalore Uniersity presided over by vice chancellor, Prof K Byrappa on Saturday September 16, decided to allow students who have passed ITI and diploma direct admission into degree courses.

The students who pass from government or government-recognized Industrial Training Institutes (ITI), and those who have passed diploma can seek entry into BA, BCom, BCA, and BBM degrees. The decision is in tune with the directive received from Karnataka Higher Education Council.

The academic council of the university approved a decision to recognize ITI or three year diploma courses as equivalent to PUC. The university at the same time said that students will also be allowed admission into BSc degree in which they need to study biology and chemistry. They feel that having studied these subjects in SSLC, it might not be hard for these students to study these subjects. The vice chancellor also said that preparations are afoot to additionally allow BSc fashion designing and hotel management courses in the university. He also said that the initiative to begin radiology classes with assistance from BARK has been undertaken as radiology experts have good opportunities in hospitals.

Finance officer of the university, Dr Dayanand Nayak, presented the annual accounts. Registrar, Prof K M Lokesh and registrar (examinations), Dr A M Khan were present.
