11 people commit suicide in Telangana


Hyderabad, Sep 18 (IANS): Eleven people, including six members of a family, committed suicide in four different incidents in Telangana on Monday, police said.

Six members of a family ended their lives in Suryapet town, 135 km from here, in the early hours of the day. Their bodies were found in their house on Monday morning.

The family members of K. Suresh took the extreme step after he went missing following huge losses he suffered in the shares market. The whereabouts of Suresh were not known, and suspecting that he committed suicide, all the family members ended their lives.

His father K. Janardhan, 59, mother Chandrakala, 50, wife Prabhavati, 30, and brother K. Ashok, 26, killed themselves after poisoning his two daughters aged five and three years.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

In the second incident, a mother and along with her two minor daughters committed suicide by jumping into the Krishna river near Patalaganga in Nagarkurnool district.

Police said the family hailed from Karnataka and had come to Patalaganga on Sunday night for worship at Shirdi Sai temple. The cause for their extreme step was under investigation, police said.

In another incident, a Home Guard ended his life in Yellareddy of Kamareddy district. Working in Bikkanur police station, Shiva was upset over his job not being regularized. He hanged himself at his home when he was alone. 

Police found a suicide note in which he stated that he was taking the extreme step due to serious financial problem.

A young farmer committed suicide in Warangal district due to financial problem. G. Mallaji, 32, killed himself by consuming pesticides. Locals said he had taken loans and was unable to repay them due to crop loss.
