4,000 special trains to clear festive rush

New Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS): In a bid to clear extra rush during the festival season, the railways will run 4,000 special trains between September 20 and October 30.

Railway officials gave this information to Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha, who held a meeting on Tuesday to review arrangements for the season.

During the meeting, Sinha was apprised of the plan to run 4,000 special train trips between September 20 and October 30 as compared to 3,800 last year.

During this period, railways face extra rush towards the eastern states of Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha, as people go back home to celebrate Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath.

A railway official said that for the special trips, about 55 extra rakes have been arranged.

Meanwhile, the railways has arranged 9,500 extra coaches in over 300 trains, the official added.
