Bangalore, Jun 6: The motion proposing the name of Shettar moved by Yeddyurappa was endorsed by minister Revunaik Belamagi and that of Eswarappa's by minister R Ashok.
Senior BJP leader Jagadish Shettar was on Thursday unanimously elected as Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Two motions moved by Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and minister K S Eswarappa were taken up for consideration by pro-tem speaker K G Bhopaiah, which the house unanimously approved.
The motion proposing the name of Shettar moved by Yeddyurappa was endorsed by minister Revunaik Belamagi and that of Eswarappa's by minister R Ashok.
Shettar, a prominent Lingayat leader of North-Karnataka region who won the Hubli-Dhaward Central seat in the assembly election, was forced to accept the presiding officers job by the party leadership.
Four-time MLA Shettar, who had served as revenue minister in the JDS-BJP coalition ministry headed by H D Kumaraswamy, was keen on joining the government, but was left out.
