Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 26: A senior journalist from Kerala was allegedly stripped in front of his family and beaten up by the police.
Sanjeev Gopalan (49) who works for Kalakaumudi newspaper has sustained neck injuries due to the alleged assault.
He alleged that he was beaten up as a few months back he had done a story accusing police of not taking action when two women complained of harassment.
Gopalan alleged that the police behaved like 'goondas' and stripped him and kicked him in the neck, in front of his wife and 15-year old daughter. The cops were mentioning about the story when they were beating me, he told media persons.
However, according to police sources, Gopalan was consuming alcohol in public place with four others. When police tried to stop him, he started abusing cops and soon the argument turned into fight. Two people fled. The police have filed a case against the three for assaulting police officers on duty and drinking in public.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram rural SP P Asok Kumar has said that a senior level officer will be probing the incident. "These are very serious allegations against the police. If the police officers are found to be guilty, strict action will be taken," he said.
