EC rejects Dinakaran's plea for time extension

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS): The Election Commission on Thursday rejected the plea of T.T.V. Dinakaran, leader of a faction of AIADMK, for 15 days' time to file documents in the "Two Leaves" symbol case and made it clear that hearing will take place on October 6 as scheduled.

EC sources said there will be no extension of time in view of the fact that there is urgency to the matter following the direction to it by the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court to decide the case by October 31.

The Commission has fixed October 6 for commencing hearing in the case in which the merged factions owing allegiance to Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam have demanded that the frozen symbol be allotted to their group along with the name of the party.

Dinakaran sought 15 days' time to file documents in the case.
