Udupi, Sep 29: Members of Kaup block youth Congress, on Thursday, September 29, staged a protest at Hiriyadka town here against anti-people policies of the union government.

Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake addressing the protestors said, "Gas and fuel prices have hiked because of wrong policies by the centre. They caused an economic crisis and unemployment. The promises made before the election are not fulfilled. The centre lied to the poor with all those promises. Note ban and GST were executed without any solid plans. As a result, back to back blow has been impacting the economy and GDP growth negatively."

Sorake further said, "During the UPA government, the price of a barrel petrol was Rs 150. At that time, we gave petrol at the rate of Rs 70. But at present, the price has decreased yet the marketing price has not changed.

"Most of all, economic policies are favourable to capitalists. Poor still suffer," he said.

Sorake said, "The Malpe-Theerthalli road is upgraded to the national highway, but the concerned department has not undertaken repair work. It is their responsibility to take up the work. Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje is rarely seen in her constituency."

President of the Campaigning Committee Amrit Shenoy said, "Prime Minister Modi held more 400 rallies across the country. He built confidence among people only by delivering speeches. People had hopes on Modi government. But he is spreading a red carpet for the capitalists. He brought back old notes, but the poor suffered a lot during the note ban. No industrialists were affected by note ban. Acche din was executed only in Modi's speech, not in reality. The BJP government implemented the old, pending schemes of the Congress. They have not introduced any new programmes."

Former MLA H Gopal Bhandary said, "MP Shobha is rarely seen in her constituency. She involves herself in developmental programmes. She is roaming around the state except for her constituency. The Manipal road issue has become news, statewide, but she is not bothered and never tried to fix the problem.

"She threatened the police department over the phone during the Kalladka issue, and misled the central government by spreading wrong information," said Bhandary.

Vice president, district Congress, Jyothi Hebbar, president, Youth Congress, Vishwas Amin, Nagesh Udyavar, president, block Congress Udupi,  women unit, Chandrika Shetty, Habeeb Ali, and others were present.
