Himachal CM, Governor greets on Dussehra

Shimla, Sep 30 (IANS): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Governor Acharya Devvrat on Saturday greeted the people on the pious occasion of Dussehra.

In a message, Devvrat said Dussehra is symbolic of victory of good over evil and hoped the festival would be celebrated with great enthusiasm throughout the state.

The Chief Minister wished that the festival would bring happiness, peace and prosperity in the lives of the people.

The centuries-old Kullu Dussehra celebration -- a unique in the country celebrated in Kullu town -- begins on Vijaya Dashami.

Unlike other places, effigies of Ravan, Meghnad and Kumbhakaran are not burnt.

However, the "evil empire" is destroyed by the assembled deities during the Lanka Dahan ceremony on the last of the week-long festival.

This time it will conclude on October 6.
