Cow protection is sanctioned in Constitution, Muslims too sacrificed their lives for it: RSS chief

Mumbai, Sep 30 (Zee News): RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed his party workers on the occasion of Vijay Dashmi in Pune on Saturday.

In his speech, the RSS chief appealed the 'gau-rakshaks' to not break laws while performing their duties while urging people to take up cow protection without considering religions.

"Cow protection is sanctioned in the Constitution. Rearing of a cow is not a matter of religion. I know many Muslims involved in rearing and protection of cows. There are Muslims who have sacrificed their lives for it," Bhagwat said.

"It is reprehensible that some people have been killed allegedly by 'gau-rakshaks'. In fact, violence of any form is reprehensible. At the same time, many people have been killed by cow smugglers. We must look at the issue of cow protection beyond religion," he said.

"Cows are used more for its urine and dung than milk in our country. For a small farmer to progress, rearing of the cow is a must. Protecting cow and cow-based agriculture is directed by the constitution. Rearing of the cow is not a matter of religion, he said.

In his speech, Bhagwat also accused the governments of West Bengal and Kerala of indulging in petty politics by lending a helping hand to the anti-national forces.

Mr. Bhagwathji, we raised a cow only for milk. We dried the cow dung and used it for fuel. But, never ever used the cow urine for any purpose. May be it is hard to collect or may be one has to wait 24/7 for cow to spread its legs and pass it. By the way, it excretes the dung and urine simultaneously. Any suggestion to collect urine without mixing with dung? Please let me know, where I should send the cow urine, if at all I am able to collect it. Please help.

I believe that constitution says something about the protection of indian breed cattle. It does not say anything about jersey and HF cattle.

Now what if i import a breed of cattle specifically for meat purpose?? will it be banned from slaughter??

I wounder how cows are eaten by foreigners when we export them with out killing it.
It means you can kill the cow to export. not to consume in India by Indians. if we have to eat Indian beef we have to go abroad .

My brother in Mangalore and people around his house, rear many cows and all of them sell milk to the milk deport, but they never use the cows for urine and cow dung. Mr. Bhagwat says cows are used in India more for urine and cow dung than milk. May be he knows better, because he is a doctor of animals with a veterinary degree. My sincere question is, do we have any depots collecting cow urine and paying for it ? If it is a fact, then it is worthwhile to take care of old and unproductive cows ! But, I see lot of old cows on the street eating from trash cans !

Why to go to Vedas ? Read the latest govt report

"The biggest chunk of beef eating population is Muslim by faith, according to NSSO data. Around 63.4 million Muslims consume beef/buffalo. That adds upto 40% of the total Muslim population. For Christians, this figure is around 26.5%. Although, less than 2% Hindus eat beef/buffalo, they are ranked second in absolute terms. More than 12.5 million Hindus consume it."
