Badminton Star PV Sindhu among 100 Osmania University alumni to be honoured


Hyderabad, Sep 30 (Deccan Chronicle): Osmania University will confer Best Alumni Awards to 100 eminent alumni from various fields from all over the world during the valedictory function of the centenary celebrations in April 2018. 

The varsity has invited nominations for the alumni awards through the official website of the university.

Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayan, late Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, former Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh, former Union minister S. Jaipal Reddy and tennis ace Sania Mirza were among the names suggested for the best alumni awards.

Professor P. Laxminarayana, special officer, Alumni Association, said, “The varsity is also planning to award the oldest and the youngest alumni from OU. The administration is already looking for the oldest graduate above 80 or 90 years. Badminton star P.V. Sindhu is expected to receive the youngest alumni award. We are scrutinising the names and sending them to the administration. By November or December, at the Global Alumni meet, the top 100 names will be finalised.”

OU Vice-Chancellor S. Ramchandran said a committee has been constituted to select the alumni for the awards. Eminent entrepreneurs, doctors, scientists, politicians, sportspersons, social workers and technology experts etc from all over the world will be considered. 

“We are looking for eminent people from various fields. This time we are felicitating doctors as well from Osmania Medical College. We have requested the Osmania Medical College to identify eminent alumni. We will felicitate the alumni at the valedictory function of the centenary celebrations in April 2018,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
