India, Pakistan exchange fire along LoC

Jammu, Oct 4 (IANS): The Pakistani Army resorted to heavy shelling and firing on Wednesday at three places on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, Defence Ministry sources said.

Mortars, automatics and small arms were used to target Indian positions in Degwar, Talwan and Mandiyalan areas.

"Indian positions are retaliating strongly and effectively. Till last reports came in, firing exchanges were going on between the two sides," the Ministry sources said.

Police said so far, no civilian casualty or injury was reported.

The district authorities have ordered indefinite closure of all schools in these areas.

An Indian army soldier was on Tuesday killed in a sniper fire from across the LoC in Poonch.
