Mangaluru: Residents, rickshaw drivers stage protest over bad shape of roads in city

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Oct 5: Residents of Bendoorwell area and auto rickshaw drivers staged a protest here on Thursday, October 5 condemning dilapidated roads on Bendoorwell circle to Karavali circle.

Former president of Mangaluru Bar Association S P Chengappa said, “The stretch of the road between Bendoorwell circle and Karavali circle is completely dilapidated and filled with crater like potholes. Locals have been constantly protesting demanding the repair of roads here, but no one seems to be bothered. Local corporators and mayor too do not respond to the cries of people.”

“Even the roads from Pumpwell to Bendorwell and Pumpwell to Father Muller Hospital road are completely damaged. The roads here are accident prone which put the lives of motorists in danger. We hereby demand to repair the road at the earliest or else will continue our protest,” added Chengappa.

Auto rickshaw drivers, social activist, and locals were present.

Even worse NH from nantur to gurpur to Moodbidri . Such a poor state of our roads feels like travelling in a boat. Such deep holes on either side of the road is inviting accidents . If you move about slowly to avoid potholes there are super duper express buses honking at your back. Forcing you to lose concentration . Only cancellation of license for offence will lower accidents n put an end to reckless driving.

Looks like the MP, MLA's and Corporators are all lost all their senses. There are many roads were urgent repairs are needed. The Hampankatta junction is in a very bad state and now when it is rained the place would be good for a bath/swim. The craters at this junction are in a bad state. The worst road is the road leading to Pumpwell (both the roads). Any accident the MCC should be responsible specially the Hampankatta. The Sturrock road, Bejai New road 7th cross, Cascia leading to Mangaldevi temple.

Don't pay any fine, fight with RTO officials if they stop you. Make them frustrated....

I want everyone to fight with them, till they stop collecting fines, they have to pay us for the bad roads by collecting funds from the concerned road authorities.
I repaired my car in the garage by paying Rs 5500/-after it's body touched the road due to the giant pothole on Bendoorwell road.
Who will pay to me? Is that my mistake?

UT KADER, RAMANATH RAI, J R LOBO are they in Mangalore or Bangalore???
If they were in Mangalore they would come to know the problem.

Even in BJP govt they were corrupt but during there govt roads were good they lived up to there promise by building concrete roads in the city. But in congress got full corruption and bad roads.

Congress are still 70 years back they think people walk and go to work so why do people need road??

Annere, whichever party is voted to power, condition of roads remain the same. Look at the toll road from Nanthoor to Surathkal. The number of craters are more than the toll amount that government charges thru NHAI. And who is responsible for maintenance of National Highways?

We common people should stop fighting along party lines and come together so that politicians and officials are forced to be accountable. Else we will continue arguing while these people make money.

Irrespective of parties no one does the job nor take responsibilities BJP or Congress both are equal in terms of developments. Fake promises delayed responses. No developments. If this wasn't true think about this " BJP or Congress from past 20 years are still working on completing the projects sanctioned by Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee" and still not completed. Its just a blame game that we play.

We Indians are too used to adjustments. "Some one will take the responsibility, why me ? " when we travel on these roads curse the government and its officials and move on and forget. Agree or Disagree this is the fact and nothing will change this ever. People will be same, governments will change, and nothing will improve and we sit and dream of Smart City and what not.
