Udupi: Potholes causing death of child - father booked for negligent driving

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Oct 9: In connection with the tragic incident which happened on national highway near Parkala on October 2 this year in which an 18-month-old child lost its life, the Manipal police have booked the father of the child, accusing him of committing offences under sections 279, 337 and 304A of of Indian Penal Code, which deal with negligent driving, causing injury to others, and causing death due to rash or negligent act.

Umesh and Pramoda from Udyavar Kutpady here were going to Atrady from Parkala in their motor bike along with 18-month-old son, Chirag, on October 2 when the motor bike had skidded when trying to avoid potholes dotting the road near B M School, Parkala. The motor bike skidded on this occasion, and all the three had fallen down. While Chirag suffered grave injuries and lost his life sometime later, the couple had survived with injuries. Both wee admitted into a hospital and treated, and they are now recuperating in the residence of Pramoda's parental home at Hiriyadka.

Although various organizations and activists had organized protests about the wretched state of road between Manipal and Parkala, the road has not been repaired. The road was in a bad shape even during summer months.

Immediately after the accident, Pramoda's brother, Krishna Poojary, had filed complaint with Manipal police station, with the hope ot making national highways authority responsible for the accident. But the police chose to find fault with the people who were riding on the vehicle.

People have been expressing themselves strongly against the action of the police in registering case against the parents of the child that was killed in the accident instead of supporting them in their time of crisis. As soon as the issue came into the open on Sunday, posts condemning police action started appearing in various social websites. Many questioned the rationale of the police personnel in targetting distressed parents, although everyone knows that the accident happened because of the negligence of the department of highways or improper execution of work by contractor concerned.

What has happened to Rs100 crores project for filling potholes from sitting MP Shobha Karandlaje?
Let her add this child death top of her list along with RSS cadres murders so that she will remember her duty to the citizen of her own constituency.

The BJP bhaktha are blaming CM Siddaramaiah for Bangalore roads. Why they don't have courage to question their own party MP for negligence? Why can't she use her yearly MP grants and repair this road with urgency?

SHAME on the police. This is a threat to take back the case filed against the Road authorities. In other words.. Blackmail.. We as citizens should use this case and voice our support to the family. Maybe Mangalore should come up with its own version of the 'Sonu pothole mix' on the apathy of the government and police force. May that innocent child who lost his life to this tragedy rest in peace.

Can we name this Police Law..!!
We can see the road is wide open to travel which is not in condition.
The is no danger indication shown on the road. Or officials can simply block the road which is not done and caused the death.

Book that POLI Policeman and should be sent to NIMHAS at Bangalore for mental imblance. He is unfit to leave on this planet knowing fully well that instead of taking concerned Officials for tasks and booking them for culpable Homicide not amounting to Murder Under Section 304 of Indian Penal Code. Chi , Shame on this dirty policeman. He is unfit to be admitted to even to LKG Class. The Chief Judicial Magistrate should pull him up Sue Motto and book him under the relevant provision of the law. Unless people of Udupi-Manipal protest (irrespective of party), situation continues to be more worse than now... People should sit in front of BJP & Congress office till concerned authorities repair pathetic road before it claims one more precious life..

Note: Manipal Police must withdraw case against poor father who is already in mental shock after losing his child..Please book PWD officials..

    Dear Udupi Police,

If your logic is applied, then every person who drives / rides on that particular section of the road is guilty of negligent driving. As the road is still is the same pathetic state of affair, it is just a matter of time before another person loses his life.
So, please block the road altogether and prevent other people from committing the same crime.

    "Father booked for negligent driving"
Instead of repairing the worst road & taking an action against national highways authorities, how can they blame the father.
In that wretched condition of the road how can a person drive negligently. Baseless
