Bengaluru airport to be the first Aadhaar-enabled airport in country

Bengaluru, Oct 9 (DHNS): Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to be the first Aadhaar-enabled airport in the country by the end of 2018.

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has planned to make Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) fully Aadhaar-enabled and with a biometric boarding system.

The initiative aims to make passenger verification process quicker, at present it takes an average of 25-minutes for verification.

Hence BIAL plans to cut down the 25-minute duration to 10 minutes. So, at every checkpoint a passenger can be verified within 5 seconds.

BIAL has set December 2018 as the deadline to make the airport fully Aadhar enabled.

According to a Times of India report, BIAL executive director and president Hari Marar said "As there is a significant growth in passenger traffic, it is necessary to implement systems that allow quicker transit time, ensuring the smooth ingress and egress of passengers".

By December 2018, passengers can have a hassle-free access across all checkpoints.
