Telangana legislator Farooq Hussain brandishes footwear at woman, booked

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (IANS): A Telangana legislator who allegedly abused a woman and even brandished his footwear at her was booked on Monday, police said.

Farooq Hussain, a member of Legislative Council of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), used foul language and threatened the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) woman when she asked him to vacate her flat.

The incident was captured on a mobile phone by her relative and the video was widely circulated on social media. Hussain is seen picking up his footwear.

Amtu Wasay lodged a complaint with police, alleging that the legislative councillor misbehaved with her and even hit her with the footwear.

A case was booked against him at Nampally police station for insulting the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation.

The woman, who recently returned from the US, went to her flat in Lakdi Ka Pul area and asked Hussain, living as tenant, to vacate it. As he refused, she threatened to complain to the Chief Minister. He told her that she could approach anybody.

Hussain got angry and started abusing the woman when she said it was shameful that people like him are in the power. At one point, he took out his footwear.

Hussain has been living in the flat on rent for six years and the owner alleged that he was not paying the rent for last few months.
