Kerala priest arrested for sexually assaulting 10-year-old inside church

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 10 (Agencies): A 65-year-old priest has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor inside a church in the district.

Father Devaraj was arrested on Monday for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl who had attended church on Sunday.

The girl’s father told police that he saw his child being sexually abused while he entered the church to pick her up.

The priest has been serving at the Kandanthitta CSI church for last one year and has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.

The case of rape has been filed against the priest under Section 367 of IPC and POCSO.

    However, before drawing any conclusion..., the background of the person who is complaining of alleged incidence or act must be thoroughly examined..,

    Father Devaraj belongs to CSI church which is part of Protestant Christian denomination group. In the Protestant churches, the priests are married and have their family.

    Being a married man and conducting priests services, then, the chances of molestation of 10 years old girl in the church might be true or might be false. If it is true, then this priest deserve harshest punishment. If it is false, due to settling revenge by the disgrunted parent and want to settle scores with the priest, then, same punishment should be shown to the parent too.

    Parents should never leave their small children with any priest alone; because, the well exposed happenings in the West, over the years, r proof of the reality what could happen!!

    The above golden rule applies to all religions, castes, creeds!!

    @Rudolf R:Mumbai,it need not only in west happen but happens even in India too.Difference is in India people doesnt bring out of fear ,or not knowing too.As children not know how to explain to parents about their experience ,or taking it as sexuell abuse ,since they are not grownup ,parents hardly explain to children about sexuel happening.As per my own experience,when I think back certain things were not so good.Today as a adult, we know what it is .Whoever it is sexuell assault from a adult of a child should be punished.whichever the confession ,is.In India ,priests are honoured and have a good influence on thier people.so noone dares to talk about them many times.I dont mean not all priests but now and then do things go out of the way.Afterall they too are simply humans.

    This is a heinous crime and should be severely dealt with. The priests should be real religious models.

    It is very very unfortunate that this incident has taken place.

    Having said this I would add that A PERSON IS NOT GUILTY UNLESS AND UNTIL HE IS PROVED GUILTY.

    I have been seriously commenting here against Swamiji,Mullahs and Priest..Those who are close to God are doing crime..I am fed up reading about them always..Please Trust God ,but don't blindly believe Godman...Your parents ,well wishers are enough to guide you or take you to God, for that you don't need anyone's help..If you do good things, good will come to you..and you can't avoid what is going to happen in future..but always think and do your best..

    Unlike in Catholics priests, CSI priests (aka Pastors) are allowed to marry. For me this is a clear case of molestation. Rape has a different meaning. Victim should get justice if the case is genuine.
