Bantwal, Oct 11: A person who was lifting water with the help of a pitcher from a well for taking bath, accidentally slipped into the well and died. The incident happened at Eltelu in Kukkipady village in the taluk on the night of Monday October 9.

The deceased was Dombayya Gowda (36),  son of the late Gangayya Gowda from Eltelu. He was a coolie, and unmarried.

On Monday as usual, he arrived home after the day's work and after dusk, began to take bath on the edge of the well of his house by lifting water from the well with the help of  a pitcher tied to the end of a rope. He accidentally fell into the well on this occasion. The well in question does not have protective wall.

The family members came out after hearing the sound but were unable to  bring Dombayya's body out as he had breathed his last and his body was buried deep in sediment.

Fire brigade personnel who arrived on the scene on Tuesday morning lifted the body out.
