Gulbarga, Jun 15: State chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, on his first visit to the district on Saturday, informed that the empowered committee of state finance ministers will be meeting at New Delhi on Monday, June 16 for discussing various problems being faced by states. Although the chief minister himself is in charge of finance portfolio here, he said he would be deputing home minister V S Acharya to New Delhi as he himself is busy with other work. He added, that a decision on the reduction of sales tax on petrol and diesel in the state will be taken after the said meeting. He was addressing the media persons.
Explaining that the government is fully aware of the hardships created due to the hefty hike in the prices of petroleumproducts, Yeddyurappa reiterated, that a final decision on sales tax on these products can be taken only after conducting thorough study of the present fiscal position and other constraints.
Stoutly negating the demand for holding a judicial inquiry into Haveri firing, the chief minister said that the Belgaum divisional commissioner has already been entrusted with the task with instructions to submit a report within 10 days.
