Karkala, Jun 15: JD (S) state secretary K Krishnaraj Hegde has ruled out the possibility of the district JD (S) supporting the Congress candidate in the election to the legislative council being held on June 26. As the JD (S) has not fielded any candidate for the post, the JD (S) members can vote for a candidate of their choice as per their conscience, he clarified.
The party had entered into an understanding with the BJP in running the administration in DK zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat, Moodbidri municipal council and Mangalore APMC. There is a need to strike an understanding in the similar lines between BJP and JD (S) even in future elections, he opined.
People are reeling under the unscientific price rise and inflationary tendencies creatred by the union government headed by the Congress. It would be unwise to support Congress, which has lost its base in the state, he felt.
As JD (S) on its own finds it hard to field a candidate and ensure victory for him in the twin districts as the party base is not very solid here at present. Accordingly he has asked party colleagues to ensure that their votes do not get split between different candidates.
