Massive trove of ancient coins found in China

Beijing, Oct 20 (IANS): A large amount of copper coins dating back more than 1,000 years have been found in the city of Jingdezhen, the centre of China's porcelain industry.

The coins weighing around four tonne, were found in a cellar by a villager who was building a new house, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Some coins were from Tang Dynasty (618-907), while others were from Song Dynasty (960-1279)," said Li Xincai from the Cultural Relics Preservation bureau.

The Archaeologists are trying to identify the owner of the coins which neither belong to any individual nor any bank. The coins have been stored in the county museum.
