Goa transport officials to be booked for littering: Parrikar

Panaji, Oct 20 (IANS): Transport officials responsible for dumping vehicle ownership documents and other semi-charred official files along a national highway, will be filed for littering and an enquiry has been initiated, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday.

"I have already asked for a report. I will first file a case against them for dumping garbage. Littering case first," Parrikar said, when asked to respond to photographs that appeared earlier this week on social media, which showed Panaji transport office documents dumped in heaps along a national highway.

The Regional Transport Office premises was largely charred in a fire on October 2.

Officials in charge of the department had been tasked with clearing up the charred debris by Transport Minister Sudin Dhavalikar.

Transport department officials said the charred files were dumped along with the partially burnt documents, in an open area by peons who had been entrusted with the responsibility of disposing the damaged documents.
