Sharad Pawar Commends Bunts on Commitment to Higher Education

Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar, inaugurated the Shashi Manmohan Shetty Higher Education Complex, housing Anna Leela College of Commerce and Economics and Shobha Jayaram Shetty B M S Degree College in the city on Sunday, June 15.

This complex is an ambitious project of the Bunts Sangh in the metro. Speaking on the occasion, Pawar said his association with Bunts dated to his childhood years as people from the community were successful in the fields of hospitality, banking, and sports which were dear to him.

The minister commended the community on surging ahead in education with their initiative in setting up a higher education complex. He added that each member of the Sangh was committed to the cause of providing higher education to their brethren.


 

The programme was presided over by Dr Padmanabha V Shetty, president of Bunts Sangh while minister for higher education and medical studies, Dileep Valse Patil was the chief guest. Mumbai University vice-chancellor Dr Vijay Khole, local MLA Nawab Mallik, and social worker Rajendra Lad were the guests of honour.
 
Padmanabha S Payyade and family, Krishna Y Shetty, Annayya K Shetty and his wife, Barkoor Dharmaraj Shetty, and veteran of Bunts community M D Shetty, were felicitated by Pawar in recognition of their financial support to the cause.
 
A performance of the Yakshagana play ‘Sri Devi Mahatme’ was also staged by the artistes of Bunts Yaksha Kala Vedike.

Higher education project executive president M D Shetty, secretary Praveen B Shetty, treasurer C A Sadashiv Shetty, Sangh honorary chief secretary K D Shetty, chief treasurer Sanjeev Shetty, besides vice-presidents Padmanabha S Payyade and Ravindra M Arasa were also present on the occasion.
