Sharad Yadav downplays Rajya Sabha notice

New Delhi, Oct 21 (IANS): Suspended Janata Dal-United leader Sharad Yadav on Saturday played down the notice sent to him by Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu over his membership of the Upper House and said his lawyers are examining it.

Confirming that he received a letter from the Rajya Sabha chairman, Yadav said that he has fought elections 15 times and won 11 times.

"I have received the letter, my lawyers are looking into it... I have fought elections 15 times and won 11 times, I have also resigned thrice," he said.

The Rajya Sabha secretariat has issued a show cause notice to Yadav and Ali Anwar Ansari, who have been suspended from the Janata Dal-United.

The notice was sent after a petition was submitted by RCP Singh, who replaced Yadav as the party leader in the Upper House. He urged the Rajya Sabha chairman to disqualify the two leaders for allegedly "indulging in anti-party activities and voluntarily quitting the party".
