Fishermen protesting against Chinese engines baton charged


Chennai, Oct 23 (IANS): Police resorted to mild baton charge here on Monday to disperse the fishermen protesting against the use of China made high powered engines in fishing boats.

A large number of fishermen protested on the roads in Kasimedu area here against the use of high powered engines in fishing boats by some.

The protestors alleged that the use of high powered engines affects their catch and also kills small fishes.

Some city buses were damaged as the fishermen hurled stones during the protest which witnessed the participation of women as well.
