Puttur, Jun 18: Finally BJP state president D V Sadanand Gowda has fulfilled one of his party's pre-poll promises. As rumours had earlier stated that DVS had said that he would transfer AC Vasantkumar if BJP voted back to power, the latter has formally been transferred. Assistant commissioner(AC) Vasantkumar has been transferred and Harishkumar of Bhatkal has been posted in his place.
Vasantkumar was known for strict implementation of rules and regulations in Puttur sub-division. Sources attribute his untimely transfer to the frictions he had with the BJP state president and MP Sadanand Gowda on certain issues.
Vasantkumar had also served as the administrator of Puttur municipality for a few months. He had taken the bold initiative of demolishing illegal structures in the town that had been impeding the road expansion work, during his tenure as administrator. He was successful in demolishing almost all the illegal structures, inspite of heavy pressure brought about by the politicians against the move. This operation was well appreciated by the citizens of Puttur town. On the other hand, he had to face strong opposition from the local traders and businessmen.
Later he carried out operations in Uppinangadi and Kadaba to demolish illegal buildings. He had some misunderstanding with D V Sadananda Gowda in connection with the proposed mini Vidhanasowdha and Gowda had warned Vasantkumar of reverting him from his post after the assembly elections. Gowda has kept his word by transferring Vasantkumar now, sources feel.
