Mangaluru: AJIDS holds awareness programme on passive smoking

Mangaluru, Oct 27: Health and Family Welfare Services, DK, District Tobacco Control Cell and Tobacco Intervention Initiative Centre, A J Institute of Dental Sciences, on Friday, October 27, organised a a community-wide intervention to promote smoke-free homes in the city with the help of Primary Health Care workers. The programme was held at Kallamundkur Primary Health Centre.

Dr Roshan Shetty and Dr Pramada from department of Public Health Dentistry, AJ Institute of Dental Sciences had a discussion with the healthcare workers and assessed their exposure to passive smoking and knowledge of secondhand smoking.


 

Later, a health talk was given on the ill-effects of secondhand smoke and the importance of making homes smoke-free.

The audience was encouraged to initiate 'smoke-free home' in their respective houses and were asked to spread awareness in the neighborhood.
