Bangalore, Jun 20: Home minister Dr V S Acharya, BJP womens unit president Bharati Shetty, BJP SC Morcha president Siddaraj, ex chairman of Backward Classes Development Corporation Shankarappa, all from BJP, Ex-minister M V Rajashekharan of the Congress and K V Narayanswamy and M C Nanaiah of the JD (S) were declared elected to the legislative council unopposed. Legislative council secretary V Sreesha declared the results.
For the Rajya Sabha, S M Krishna and ex MLA Anil Lad from the Congress, ex-governor Justice Rama Jois and ex-MLA Prabhakar Kore from the BJP were declared elected unanimously, by the returning officer and legislative assembly speaker S B Patil.
As per the election rules, in an uncontested election, if the number of candidates in the fray and the number of seats contested are equal, then such candidates can be declared elected an hour after the scrutiny of papers, Patil explained.
The returning officers issued certificates to the elected candidates on Thursday,June 19.
