Mangalore, Jun 21: Rev. Fr. Vincent D’Souza, Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Church, Alangar – Moodbidri was honoured on 14th June, 2008 at Mangalore by the District Unit of Indian Red Cross Society, on the occasion of World Blood Donors Day celebrations.
M. Maheshwar Rao, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada District and President of the Unit honored Fr. D’Souza and 5 others for their contributions in the field of blood donation. Fr. D’Souza, who spoke on behalf of the honored said that blood saves life and that is why blood donation has been considered as a noble task. It is above caste, creed, religion or any other differences and it has the power to bring unity in the society.
Besides being a donor himself, Fr. D’Souza has arranged for blood during emergencies. He has inspired many to donate the life saving fluid by organizing several blood donation camps.
Fr. Vinent D’Souza, an active member of the Lions International was instrumental in starting a Lions Club at Mudarangady and he was its Founder President. At present he is the Lions District Chairman of the sub-committee for mentally challenged people.
Fr. D’Souza, an enthusiastic educationist, founded the St. Francis English Medium High School at Mudarangady. Now he is the Correspondent of Alangar parish schools with a student strength of about 2000 students.
Fr. Vincent D’Souza is popular for achieving communal harmony.
