Mangaluru, Nov 8: In commemoration of its Silver Jubilee, KMC Hospital Attavar, distributed special Manipal Arogya Suraksha cards to BPL card holders.
Distributing the symbolic card to a beneficiary, pro chancellor Manipal University, Dr H S Ballal said, "The Manipal group is known for health and education. On these lines, every year as part of our service we introduce and implement various societal programmes. This year on account of its silver jubilee, KMC Hospital Attavar has exclusively organised the programme.
"The Arogya Suraksha Cards is distributed to BPL holders. We do not want people to turn ill, but this card is introduced as a precautionary measure as we do not know when we may fall sick. In an illness, poor people in particular face financial problems. That is when the Arogya card will be of help. If the only breadwinner of a poor family falls sick, he is unable to go to work and bear the hospital bills. With zero finance he cannot do anything. Arogya Suraksha Card helps these kinds of families.
"Around 34,000 BPL card holders are eligible for KMC Arogya Suraksha Card and we provide them free treatment of upto Rs 25,000. I thank all the organisations and NGOs for their help toward adding people in this programme."
