IndiGo apologises to wheelchair-bound passenger for mishap at Lucknow airport

New Delhi/Lucknow, Nov 13 (IANS): Budget carrier IndiGo on late Sunday night apologised to a passenger who fell off her wheelchair while being assisted by the airline's staff at Lucknow airport.

The incident happened on Saturday.

The development also comes days after the airline had apologised to a passenger who was manhandled at Delhi airport in October.

"We apologise to Ms. Urvashi Parikh Viren for the mishap which occurred at the Lucknow Airport yesterday at 8 p.m.," the airline said in a statement.

"Our IndiGo representative was pushing her wheelchair towards the arrival hall. As he was guiding her wheelchair through a vehicular lane, which was dimly lit at that time of the night, her wheelchair got stuck in a deep crack on the tarmac and lost balance and she fell off her wheelchair."

"Parikh was injured and immediately rushed to the doctor of the Airports Authority of India. He administered first aid to her."

According to the airline, the passenger was kind enough to say that it was not a human error and "we should deal with the staff with empathy, when we de-brief our loader. We promised to do so."

Here the budget airlines are giving good fare if booked well in advance like elsewhere, but the pilots work just like the drivers & for them it's like a hobby & adventure as said by one of my acquaintance who is also a pilot who learned flying here and flying in India. But here it works because the people have good basic life (minimum standard). But we need to have concern for those working in Airline industry as there is no basic life like in here. You are right in saying that some section of the people here just wait for the opportunity to sue someone wherever it might be.

I advice people not to expect too much from budget airlines as the fare is a little more than Rajadhani Express. The staff must be getting paid according to the airfare & their working hours must be odd. I also advice people to have patience while boarding & waiting for the coach & not to book wheelchair if it's not necessary. Indigo Airline has expanded a lot in recent years and they must be having difficulty coordinating the operations throughout the country.

If that is the case then the government should stop collecting taxes Mr/Mrs Bengalurian.
To provide cheap air fares its the common people's taxes which is being used. If THEY cant provide good facilities they should stop using tax resources.
No one has the right to say that "You cannot expect good services in budget air fares"
We can expect good services anywhere provided the people working there is good and the customers are not rude.
If you are a NaMo bhakth you are contradicting his UDAN scheme or"Let the common citizen of the country fly"
If there is one thing that we can do, we could sack Gajapathi Raju for being the worst Union Minister for civil aviation

    UDAN has two components-
    1. The development and operationalisation of 100 regional airports with regular scheduled flights by 2018-2019, for which initial funding of INR4500 crore for the redevelopment of 50 airports was approved in May 2017.

    2. The new regional flight routes component, which will cap and subsidize the airfares, to connect hundreds of new subsidized commercially viable routes among more than 100 under-served and unserved airports in smaller towns with each other and with well served airports in bigger well connected cities as well.

It has nothing to do with budget airlines which fly to all the airports. UDAN is about regional connectivity.
