Mumbai, Nov 13: Senior teacher, journalist, Laxmi Chaya discussion forum convener here, poetry singer, columnist, dramatist, singer, Bhujanga Shetty Kurkal (85) passed away at Dharam Palace residence, M G Road, Borivli east on November 12 due to a cardiac arrest.
He has left behind son Dayasagar Shetty, daughter Annapurna J Shetty and a large number of friends, relatives, his literature fans and students. He was honored with 'Guru Narayana literature award 2017', sponsored by Billavara Association Mumbai a month ago.
He was born in Kurkal on July 17, 1932. He completed his studies in the high school run by his father at Innanje and began teaching there. He later studied at the teacher training school in Mangaluru and continued teaching. He joined as a day teacher at national Kannada education institute, Vadala in 1966 and taught in the night at Gurunarayana night school run by Billavara Association, Mumbai for about two and a half decades.
He has served as editor of 'Patrapushpa' monthly magazine published by Bombay Bunts Association for ten years. More than 26 of his literary works are published. Nearly 22 authors were felicitated by literary awards being presented by him in the name of his late wife, Jayanti.
He was living with his son at Borivli east. His body was kept for public homage there in the evening. His last rites were performed at Borivli crematorium at night on November 12.
