Soldier, militant killed in Kashmir gunfight


Srinagar, Nov 14 (IANS): A soldier and a militant were killed in an ongoing gun battle on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, police sources said.

The incident occurred in Nowbug village. Another soldier was injured in the fighting and was shifted to a hospital, the sources said here.

The gun battle erupted after security forces cordoned off the village in Qazigund area following information about the presence of the militants.

Another gunfight broke out also on Tuesday between militants and security forces in Pulwama district, police said.

In Pulwama, militants fired at security forces including the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force in Laam village near Tral town.

Latest reports said the militants had managed to slip away.
