Special police in Uttarakhand districts to check crime against women


Dehradun, Nov 15 (IANS): The Uttarakhand government will raise special police units in the state's 13 districts to deal exclusively with crime against women.

A decision to this effect was taken at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, presided over by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

A proposal to provide a subsidy of Rs 5 lakh for setting up community radio stations in the hill state has also been approved, an official said.

The Cabinet also ratified a proposal to waive stamp fees on land to be used in the Indira Aawas Yojana.

An official said that amendments to the Uttarakhand Rural Engineering Rulebook were also approved, apart from the creation of 573 posts under the Urban Development Authority.
