Dubai, Nov 17: 'Kannadigaru Dubai' organization will be celebrating Kannada Rajyotsava on November 24 at the auditorium of JSS International located at Jumeirah village here, under the slogan, 'Namma Mannige Namma Gaurava'.
A number of poets, writers, thinkers and dignitaries from social, educational and religious sectors will grace Karnataka Rajyotsava programme this year.
The 62nd Kannada Rajyotsava being organized by 'Kannadigaru Dubai', which will begin at 6 pm on the said date, will be presided over by the president of the organization, Veerendra Babu. The programme will be officially initiated with lighting of lamps by the chief guests and rendering of the state anthem. This will be followed by several programmes including addresses by the chief guests and cultural programmes.
Every year, 'Kannadigaru Dubai' has been identifying people with stellar contributions to Kannada and Karnataka and honouring them with 'Kannada Ratna' award. This year, this award will be presented to Dr Shamanur Shivashankarappa, who has been involved with educational sector of Karnataka and serving the society in a noble way. It may be recalled that in the previous years, cine star, Dwarakish, as well as poet, writer and thinker, Prof K S Nissar Ahmed, were among the recipients of this award.
Dr B R Shetty, chairman of NMC group, who owns several companies, who has carved out a niche for himself in UAE and who happens to be the pride of Karnataka, S S Ganesh (owner of Davanagere Sugar Co and Laxmi Flour Mills, S S Aviation and president of South Indian Sugar Mills Association Davanagere, Karnataka), comic cine actor and host, Anand, singers, Anjali Haliyal and Veena Hangal will be among the guests who will take part.
Children settled in UAE will present a programme of Kannada dance and music on the occasion.
'Kannadigaru Dubai' has requested all the non-resident Kannadigas currently living in Dubai to attend the programme in large numbers and contribute to the success of the programme so that the sweet sound of Kannada may resonate through the waves of the Arabian Sea among the deserts of this land of Arabs on a beautiful day on which Kannada will be worshipped and celebrated.
The press conference organized to announce the programme was attended by president of the organization, Veerendra Babu, former presidents, Uma Vidyadhar, Sadan Das, and Mallikarjun Gowda, apart from members, Deepak Somashekhar, Balakrishna, Mamata Raghavendra, Vijaya Shivarudrappa, Arun Kumar, Srinivas Aras, Chandrakanth and Rafiq Ali kodagu among others.
