Udupi, Jun 30: Kudremukh located in the Western Ghats, is widely known for lush greenery and also because of an iron ore company that was functional there till recently, is now looking forward for a police reserve center set to be started there. Home minister Dr V S Acharya has confirmed this news during the police officers’ meeting held here on Sunday June 29.
Once upon a time, Kudremukh was known for iron ore and later mining was banned by the Supreme Court to preserve the biological sensitivity of the Western Ghats. Commercial activities have drastically come down since the last two years, owing to the closure of iron ore company. But this place has been recognized as one of the favourite tourist spots in the State. Now the state has decided to use the existing infrastructure there, for locating the police reserve centre.
V S Acharya has informed that Kudremukh centre once set up, will accomodate police of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Shimoga and Chikmaglur districts. The entire available infrastructure will be handed over to the home ministry and about 2000 police personnel deployed at the centre. Special training will be given to the personnel to hone their skills in curbing the anti-national elements like Naxalism, which is spread in the Western Ghats, Acharya added. Owing to this news initiative by the state government, people expect Kudremukh to abuzz with activities again.
