Puttur: Chikungunya Victims Compensated by Special Package : Shobha Karandlaje

Puttur, Jul 1: Chikungunya victims who are distressed owing to contagious disease will be awarded compensation by special package, said Shobha Karandlaje, minister for rural development.
She was speaking to media persons on Monday June 30, after visiting the Chikungunya victims in their household.
State government has decided to find permanent solution to the fate of Chikungunya victims who will be provided with free rice and essential commodities. Chikungunya victims irrespective of hailing from Above Poverty Level (APL) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families will be provided with 10 kilograms of rice each. Moreover, strict actions will be taken on those if they are found to have supplied sub standard rice to the affected families. Regular checks will be made on Ration shops in the taluk to identify sub standard stock of rice meant for distribution to Chikun Gunya victims, she added.
Seeking health care services from medical colleges:
A meeting will be held with the heads of district medical colleges in Mangalore, to seek health care services in order to curb Chikungunya cases rising in district. House visits will be arranged with the assistances of medical doctors and administer medicines, she added.
Million dollars question whether Chikungunya is not a fatal disease:
"No deaths have occurred owing to Chikungunya," advocated health department officers. Minister Shobha Karandlaje, demanded whether its true on the part of health department, for which MP Sadanand Gowda, countered that it's difficult to comment since the government has been in the soup owing to many deaths occurred due to Chikungunya attack. Moreover, the state government would send medical team to the affected families to derive the truth in this regard. The next of kin of Chikun Gunya victims will be awarded compensation under special package shortly, said minister Shobha.
Minister Shobha also visited the household of Chikungunya victims Guruva and Kusumavati and consoled them besides assured them of supplying 100 kilograms of rice.
