Mangalore, Jul 1: Torrential rains continued to lash all parts of the district on Monday, June 30 too. As a result, most of the low lying areas in the city got inundated by rain water. The number of potholes on the roads have witnessed an alarming increase since the last few days. Because of this, life in the city has become an ordeal for many.
District in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar visited low lying areas in Kottara and Jappinamogru on Friday. He instructed the authorities to estimate the total cost of losses suffered on account of rain.
He informed the media persons that the state government has already sanctioned Rs 2 crore for disaster management. The district administration is capable of handling flood situations, he assured.

Why do we have to wait for the government to do something about this problem? This problem has been repeating every year and eery year we hear our elected representatives giving assuarences that they will rectify the problem. Come next rainy season, we are back to square one. Why don't we hold the builders/promoters responsible for indiscriminate developments/projects, flouting the rules and not providing proper drainage for rain water? They make a quick buck and the unwitting poor gullible customers have to face the inconvenience of flooding every year.
There is no solution for this or what every year many areas facing same problem due to lack of planning and not proper drainage system installed. Mangalore is growing like any other city but without basic plan.
