Two dailies booked for militant picture goof-up in J&K

Srinagar, Nov 21 (IANS): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday booked two newspapers for publishing a fake picture and captioning it as a slain nephew of Pakistan based LeT commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.

Police said an FIR had been lodged against two newspapers for passing off a Jammu based civilian Majid Khatana as the militant killed in Hajin encounter on Saturday.

The two newspapers, Dainik Jagran and Amar Ujala, have been booked under sections 505 and 153 of state's Ranbir Penal Code.

Khatana a resident of Khatika Talab in Jammu was shocked after seeing his photograph published in these newspapers.

"Majid was shown as a slain militant by these two newspapers," police said, adding that the photograph of Khatana was carried despite the fact that the identity of all the six slain militants in Hajin encounter had been fully established by the security forces.
