Riyadh, Jul 1: Representatives from the Karavali welfare association Riyadh (KWAR), met the manager of Air India, Ratan Ghosh on Monday, June 30, and handed over a memorandum regarding the direct flight from Riyadh to Mangalore.

This was one of the major milestones embodied by the KWAR in its programme. The delegation consisted of Vijai Rai, president of KWAR, Khasim Ahmed, vice-president of KWAR, Royston Prabhu, general secretary, and Rajesh Kumar, co-ordinator.

The team members expressed their satisfaction with the briefing in which the existence and diverse objectives of the association were communicated to Ghosh. The delegation also highlighted the importance and contribution of Mangalore (undivided district of DK) as a focal point that had the lion’s share in education, economy, trade, business, foreign exchange, and volume of NRIs in the Kingdom.

Ghosh was also invited to the inaugural ceremony of KWAR, to be held on Friday, July 4, 2008 at Al Khayyam Hotel at Hara, in Riyadh. Sources informed that Ghosh is well aware of the region and the airline has done its own survey and homework on the possibility of introducing direct flights on this route.

The management of Air India will look into the technical aspects of operating such flights, their frequency, volume of business expected, subject to the approval of the PCA and availability of aircraft.

This is a long-awaited dream of scores of NRIs based in various parts of the Kingdom like Riyadh, Qassim, Buraida, Hail, Dawadmi, Wadi Dawasir, Al Kharj, Maima, and others. A number of problems in the existing travel system via Mumbai and other terminal points, being faced by Mangaloreans as well as others would be considerably reduced if the direct flight facility is introduced. This will require the co-operation of both the concerned state and central governments in India.

So far, there was no unified front to take up the cause in the Kingdom. Now KWAR has been pursuing the issue on a war footing and hopes to have the task accomplished before or by the end of 2008. Since its inception, KWAR has held regular meetings of its executive committee to work towards making this dream a reality.

In my opinion, it's better to approach Jet Airways to have daily flights to Bombay from Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam rather wasting our time begging with AIE. Jet Airways will have superb service and timely operation. In my 15-yrs tenure at Saudi, so far I never travelled with Air India due to their bad services, which I normally hear from the horses mouth...

Dear harris Madani, you are simply 100 percent right in saying each single word by word. I have a lot & lot experience of this. Cabin crews will never bother of a passanger sitting in economy class when they are called for some sort of service. A fellow sitting beside me called a cabin crew once just 3 month ago, and a cabin crew old woman say 45-50 years came and simply shouted at him "Kya hey, kitna bar bulate ho?". I was awaken not to call her next till landing. Be serious and this is not joke for heaven sake. Passanger like me still fly with Air India....despite of this service....needless to say....Air India is from India and what more "MERA BHARATH MAHAN".

All my dearest Brother's & sister's, it'z a good news that at least its happening finally, anyway it’s a good effort from Vijai Rai, Khasim Ahmed, Royston Prabhu, and Rajesh Kumar, thx…. for that, it will be much more convenient for the DK people directly flying to the destination, but the imperative things that please don't trust even 10% on this "air india" flights, first of all they are not particular in time keeping and moreover when you check in to the security also may be there is a chance to cancel the flight, if cancelled!!! there is no proper facilities for the passengers, and everyone knows very well about the cabin crew in air India, (most of them are above 40 & they are lazy).  One of the worst cabin crews in the world you can say simply !!!!!!!, and especially the recent incident “ the air india pilots ware fully drunk & sleeping inside the flight while the flight waz on air and the flight waz crossed the destination more then 100 miles…. Wowwww “ unbelievable” really almighty saved around 110 passengers.

Is the civil aviation has taken any action on that???? No not at all….. who cares??? and there is  much more incidents which have happened with Air India & their crews, also please don’t think that I am blaming them.. this is the reality and you will realize and get a good experience too.

The direct flight in the Jeddah-Riyadh-Dammam-Mangalore sector is long overdue and justified considering the no. of NRI's from coastal area in these regions. Hope AIR-INDIA will provide this facility or else atleast allow other airlines to operate.

Air India express must consider starting the direct flights to Mangalore from Jeddah(western province)Riyadh(Central Province) and Dammam(Eastern Province). One aircraft(if available)must operate at least 2 times a week from each these 3 provinces will be more helpful cover 3 districts DK, UDIPI, NORTH KANARA, and north Kerala. Let us hope by the end of this year we will hear good news from AI.

I think the flights should operate from Dammam to Mangalore, As it its difficult for the people living in and around Dammam, Qatif, Jubail, etc will have difficulty going to Riyadh.
